This past week was midterm week, aka hell week. Its one of the most dreadful weeks of the year. A shit load of work in a short amount of time. Its comparable to a tsunami. You see it coming, but you cant run and you cant hide. Its going to hit you hard, and when it does, its no surprise. I feel confident with the way things went.
Im heading home for fall break this weekend. Im very excited to spend time with fiends and family. Not too sure that Ill have time to play poker, but Ill try to log some hands.
I had some free time last night so I decided to log some hands. First I played a 1.3k hand session. It didnt go very well. I dropped 4 buy ins. Ouch, I was pissed. After a two hours of chilling out, I decided it was time for another go at it. This time I would only 4 table, rather than the usual 6 table. Over 800 hands I won 3.25 buy ins. It felt really good to make a strong comeback. I had quite a few trouble hands from my sessions.
1) Villain is 67/13/.8 over 425 hands. I think I played this too passively. If I lead the turn, do I call a shove? http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554504
2) Villain is 42/14/.75 over 100 hands. Is this turn call a spew? http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554521
3) Villain is 67/48/3.8 over 100 hands. He was an avid bluffer. I went for a turn c/r but he checked behind. Whats the optimal line here? http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554532
4) Villain is 47/19/.8 over 150 hands. Hes taken this line against me before, to which I laid down an over pair. http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554539
5) Villain is a good regular 20/17/5.2 over 1.9k hands. His flop AF is 10. http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554551
6) Villain is a terrible donk at 65/16/1 over 125 hands. http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554559
7) Villain is 44/17/.9 over 50 hands. Flop, standard. Turn, ew. http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554565
8) Acehole is 20/13/1.5 over 150 hands. http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554576
9) Acehole again. Bad river call? http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554595
10) Acehole was owned me, lol. Lead into with TPTK. http://www.pokerhand.org/?1554611

Hand 1: What range do you have this villain on? When he calls flop he has Axs,54+,Qx,88+ maybe a slow played set. I think with his chip stack and that range you are leading the turn and calling a shove and feeling pretty good about it.
Hand 2: Again what range are you assigning villain? What was your plan on te turn if he bet? I think I too would be inclined to bet this turn as it looks like villain made a move on the flop with a pair and a GS and is giving up. Maybe we should be checking but I definately would like to hear what others think on that. As for you turn call of his C/R, when you make that call are you committing to calling his river shove? I say fold to the C/R or go with it.
Hand 8: Any history with villain? Obviously we assign a pretty tight range to villain since he not only called a 3bet but did it OOP. I would say maybe TT+ and AQs+? I understand the no bet on the turn but then again I am not so sure how much I like it. he might very well call a 2/3 PSB with QQ in this spot or he could have AQh and call with a draw. I think the best line on the flop is a bet. As played it looks like you felt your hand was best and you extracted max value with that read by allowing villain to bet off his whole stack. If thats the case then fuck the results.
Hand 1: Lead turn call a shove.
Hand 2: This is player dependent. I'm either folding or shoving based on actions he's taken before like this. He's got a big stack, what has he been wining with? TP's, sets, draws that hit, moronic 2 pairs like 75.....this info is what sways me to fold or shove here. BUT, I don't like a call.
Hand 3: I think I do the same thing.....well played. Sucks you couldn't get that c/r in though, but win or lose I like your play on that one.
Hand 4: He's taken this line before and you folded? Shove this one. Can't let them off so easy......I'll do this all day long to you if you keep folding.
Hand 5: I probably fold this too. That's a lot of hands to have on someone, you should have a good idea why he's raising here....there's no draw. Set or AQ I would think. Unless you've seen him do this before w/ TPWK then fold.
Hand 6: As played I'm not sure.....tough spot you shouldn't be in IMO. Reraise turn for $44 and then calling a shove is easy.
Hand 7: I'm more worried about pocket 8's than a 5. Against this non aggro player I think a fold here is fine on the turn.
Hand 8: You need to bet this flop. As played I call this down, but to 3 bet and then check TPTK? Why?
Hand 9: Good turn check, river call not great, but not a total spew. Not sure how I would react in the heat of the moment on that one.
Hand 10: Raise flop bet. As played I fold river.
Seems like you are not being aggressive enough post flop in many hands here. Being too passive is putting you in tough spots that are avoidable IMO. Maybe watch some vids or sweat one/some/all of us and focus on some post-flop play. Enjoy the break and hope to see you on tables more.
Hand 1: With normal stacks, and given villain’s AF, he probably wouldn’t raise anything that tpgk beats. However, if you bet, his shove will basically be a minraiser, so he could do it lighter, plus you’d be getting too good of odds to fold. I say bet/call turn, way too drawheavy to go for pot control (plus, it’s tough to control when he can just get it all in with 2 average-sized bets).
Hand 2: Again, the AF here sucks, and he’s a full stack. I probably call this during a hand, but as it stands, what hands is he raising? Would help to know his call c-bet %, but on the flop his calling range is basically everything: he could be slowplaying straight/set/overpair, he could be calling medium strength hands and OESDs because he’s passive, he could be calling overcards or gutshot draws (like A8 or something very random). Since he’s passive, he’s not really looking to bluff his trash, so when he check/raises, what range do you think he has? The one hand I can come up with that you beat TT, but most likely this is either a set, 46, 68, or some flopped or turned 2-pair.
If villain were more aggressive, I’m not sure what I’d do. Not knowing when to get aggro in these spots is probably a huge leak for me.
Hand 3: if that’s your read (and it looks correct by the stats), then well played.
Hand 4: Seems like a similar opponent as from Hand 2. This hand is way more marginal though because your situation seems to be better (he would need a really random hand to have a straight). He might play KK/QQ this way, or possibly c/r flopped overs (99, TT). It does look suspicious that he’s done this before, but it could be sample size, and his AF is very low. I probably call here because it’s ACES!! And because this situation is a lot better than the one from hand 2, plus he’s done this twice.
Hand 5: I would fold. It would have been a more difficult decision HU because he could easily be stealing.
Hand 6: K6, K8, A6, 68…are you really putting him on AK/set? I’d be going with this hand on the turn for sure, his range is very wide and includes a ton of second best hands. If he called and shoved river, that would suck majorly. You would be getting ~4:1 if he shoved, so I’d probably call still.
Hand 7: Lol, more 45/15/.9 nuisance. I have to agree with LuckySOB, though it’s tough to keep folding these hands to their turn check/raises. We really need to figure out the mentality of these guys, I have no idea what their strategy is.
Hand 8: I definitely c-bet the flop. Your 3-bet already trapped a second player in for all his chips, so Acehole should ideally 4-bet KK+, so we should probably make KK+ only a remote possibility, and give him a range of 88+, AQ+ (though we shouldn’t exclude lower pairs and AJ as a possibility). What does he lead with in a protected pot? Could be TT/QQ trying to get you to lay down KK, could be AQ/AK, or a set, AJ is also possible. I think you made it really difficult by not betting the flop, and once you call the turn it’s tough to not call the river.
Hand 9: I 3b pf, I raise the flop (too draw heavy to just call). I probably fold the river, does he really bet this strong with AJ?
Hand 10: raising the flop is probably a bad idea. His range is weaker pairs (99, 77 or something), draws, sets. If you raise, you probably only fold out worse hands, and big draws+sets 3-bet. My play would be calling and looking for a safe turn. I personally bet the turn because I want to protect against draws and because the turn is fairly safe. Given the flop range I assigned, you’re only beating a missed club bluff on the river.
Hand 1: I bet the turn here. His range is huge and you beat almost all of it. I'd probably value bet the river as well as he's probably not the kind to bluff if you check. Also, think of the times you bluff a river like this and they call with 3rd pair - that means you absolutely must bet top pair for value in this spot.
Hand 2: Fold to turn raise.
Hand 3: Bet bet bet. No fancy plays please.
Hand 4: Sucks. I probably fold a lot of the time here. It seems strange that he'd check-raise semi-bluff the turn. I would expect to see you beaten here most of the time.
Hand 5: OOP this sucks so bad. these are practically the worst spots in poker. He knows it's hard for you to hit that flop so you may well be folding the best hand here. But how are you going to play it profitably OOP? A fold is fine here I think, although I think you fold the best hand a fair amount fo the time.
Hand 6: I think I play this the same. I puke when I get shown K8 or K6.
Hand 7: Same for me.
Hand 8: Bet the flop. Turn and river are must calls. Only scary thing is that the other guy is all-in so Acehole shouldn't be bluffing. I still call though. I probably shove the turn.
Hand 9: No results! It's a tough river. I probably fold as he's betting in two players. A call isn't terrible though.
Hand 10: Raise the flop. Bet the turn. River call essential.
